Mental Health and Wellbeing

Ask for help

If you’re going through any problems that may affect your studies and if you don’t know where to go for help, please contact your ResLife Advisor as soon as possible! The same goes for if you have concerns about anyone else. The ResLife team will be able to help you take steps to resolve your issues. If they are related to your studies, you should ask the Student Support Staff of your school for help.

If you do not wish to speak to us directly, you can book an appointment with the Counselling Services or ring Nightline (during term time only) on 0161 275 2983 or use their online chatroom. You can also contact the Samaritans if you need help or need to help someone.

Remember: everything you share with us, the Counselling Services or with any other service is strictly confidential! So, please, make sure you get the help you need - we’re here for you!

Counselling Services

The Counselling Services aim to help you with any personal issues affecting work, self-esteem, relationships, sexuality, mental health and general wellbeing. The services are accessible to any UoM student or staff member.

Click here to get information and find out what your first steps should be. You’ll find different materials, workshops and recommended readings on mindfulness and on how to have a healthy student experience. The Counselling Services also run regular workshops on how to manage stress and anxiety.

Workshops and Events

Throughout the year your ResLife team will keep you updated on Mental Health and Wellbeing workshops and events taking place in halls. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to find out when the events are taking place. UoM Sport’s team has also organised a Wellbeing Week that usually takes place in November. During this week, you can try over 20 different types of activities, from a massage to a Museum Tour and Aerobics - and it’s all free, follow UoMSport and Sporticipate on Facebook to keep up-to-date on the dates for this year’s week!
