Our Accommodation

The accommodation available in Manchester is one of the many advantages of studying here. We offer a greater number of places in university owned accommodation. There are more than 9,200 places available, almost all of which are within two or three miles of the university campus.

Each hall is unique in both character and design, and with such a variety of options it is difficult to convey fully their range and atmosphere, but we hope that this website will provide you with enough information to begin to consider the type of accommodation you require. All halls of residence are searchable through the Accommodation Search and offers a overview of hall type, price and location. You will also find other important information about accommodation, in particular the accommodation guarantee and the application process. We have tried to make the website as comprehensive as possible but appreciate that there may be information you require that cannot be found here; if this is the case then please make enquiries at the Accommodation Office.

The Accommodation Office and the Halls of Residence of The University of Manchester are committed to ensuring that their services and facilities enhance the student experience. Whatever your accommodation requirements you can be assured of our support and attention at all times; all you need to do is decide what those requirements are.

As well as spending time viewing the information on this website you can also download a PDF version of our 2013/14 student accommodation brochure.

How much does it cost?

Fees for University accommodation are set in the Spring prior to the commencement of session in September. Your accommodation licence will specify the fees payable and the payment options available. The preferred method of payment is by direct debit. We think this is the best way to be sure your fees are paid on time - you (or the person paying for you) will need a UK Bank Account to set up a DIRECT DEBIT.

Please note: If you hold a UK Bank Account setup when you were a minor please be aware that your bank may not allow you to set up a Direct Debit mandate. Contact your bank to change this.

Fees for September to June lettings may be paid in three or seven instalments; lettings for a calendar year (postgraduate only) in four or nine instalments. All fees in University owned or managed halls include utility charges (electricity, water, etc.) and insurance. In all halls except Victoria Hall Ethernet connectivity is also included in the fees.
