Arrival

Arriving at your accommodation

Here at the University of Manchester we are committed to ensuring your well-being and safety, as well as for our on-site teams during the current pandemic. Please plan your travel carefully and at all times adhere to the UK Government guidance for Covid-19.

We are limiting numbers

We know moving into halls is a big step and that your family / friends want to see where you will be living. For 2020 arrivals however we are limiting the number of people that you can bring with you to one person. Your helper can assist you moving into your room but then we would request they leave as soon as is practicable. Your helper should not access communal areas in flats or corridors (such as kitchens) and should not use flat toilet facilities where they are shared with other residents.

If you are entering an area to pick up keys then only you must enter that area, please ensure all helpers remain outside which will help us limit numbers within our buildings.

Catered Halls

If you are coming into one of our catered halls please be assured that your safety and wellbeing is important to us.

When you arrive into your hall you will find information in your room indicating which household group you belong to. Notices will be placed on which kitchen and bathroom areas you should use. Please do not mix with other households.

When you go to the dining room you will be required to sit with your household and you will have a designated table. This doesn’t mean that you have to eat at the same time but only that you must sit at your household's table(s).

We would ask that you help us keep you, your new household and our staff safe by following these instructions. Please also sanitise your hands on entry and exit and ensure that you clear down all of your crockery and cutlery when you have finished. Please also put any rubbish, such as napkins, in the bin before you leave.

Stay safe

· You should ensure that you regularly wash your hands or use hand sanitiser during the moving in process. We will provide hand sanitiser in all our reception and key collection areas.

· During moving in we request that you wear a face covering.

· Your keys will have been bagged up and will not have been touched for at least 72 hours prior to your arrival.

· We will have one way systems in operation in some of our buildings and you will be required to follow all signage and any instructions by on-site staff.

· In some of our halls we have lifts, we will be limiting the numbers who can use the lift at any one time.

· Our cleaning teams will continue to clean in all areas, please adhere to notices indicating that a team member is working in an area and avoid entering until the sign is removed.

· We will be limiting the number of people accessing receptions and will require you to adhere to social distancing. All our receptions have been fitted with Perspex screens.

Inventory

If you have maintenance issues within your room, then we have a Buildings Maintenance System (BM) where you can log these online. There will be more information about this in your room when you arrive. If you live at Brook Hall, Denmark Road or Weston Hall separate maintenance arrangements are in place and you will receive details about this when you arrive.
