The Accommodation Office is part of The University of Manchester. The Office provides a comprehensive service to all students of the University, administering and allocating appoximately 8,000 bedrooms, with the aim of helping to support the student experience by providing efficient and effective accommodation services and facilities.

Support Structure

The support structure that we provide consists of three main areas: The Accommodation Office, Hall Administration Offices and Pastoral Care.

Accommodation Office

The Office provides information and guidance on a range of issues including ways to deal with any problems that students might encounter over accommodation choices, special needs, existing accommodation difficulties, accommodation for students with families and on temporary accommodation, including provision available outside semester time.

Our objective is to support students in the following ways:

  • Provide accurate information and advice regarding the accommodation application/allocation process
  • Recognise applicants as individuals with their own requirements at all times
  • Allocate students into halls with the aim of providing balanced effective communities
  • Provide support and advice to administrative and pastoral colleagues working in the Halls of Residence
  • Provide financial advice to students where appropriate
  • Strive to provide affordable and value for money rent levels
  • Efficiently and effectively respond to student issues and concerns
  • Liaise/mediate/co-ordinate with other University departments to provide optimum support to residents
  • Seek student opinion, analyse trends and recommend developments to the facilities and services provided to students

Hall Administration Offices

It is important that you learn where your hall administration office is as soon as possible. In some instances it is based in the hall, but this is not always the case. Your hall administration office will be able to assist you with daily enquiries, take your accommodation fee payments and should be your first port of call with any issues that you have relating directly to your specific hall of residence.

Pastoral Care

Each hall of residence has an experienced pastoral team, who are there to help and assist you in what can be a very tumultuous time of life. They will be able to offer advice and assistance on a variety of matters, from hall based issues such as developing a cleaning rota with the rest of your flat, to guiding you in the right direction if you are having financial or academic issues.
